I’ll be joining Senator Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) and others in a press conference to answer questions about the Ryberg/Davis budget. It will be on Tuesday, April 29th at noon on the first floor of the Statehouse.
Senator Kevin Bryant (R-Anderson) today hailed the Ryberg/Davis budget proposal as a “reasonable and responsible” approach to funding the core missions of government and paying down debt. Senator Bryant said that, “we owe the taxpayers the responsibility of prioritizing their hard-earned money in a manner that ensures the full funding of K-12 education, the full funding of South Carolina public safety agencies and the full funding of healthcare agencies. The Ryberg/Davis budget is a responsible budget that funds the core mission of government and pays down debt-all without one dime of the outstanding stimulus money.”
Senator Bryant added that, “The budget offered by the Senate Finance Committee is basically a get-out-of-jail-free card. It cuts education, guts public safety, fails to fund Illegal Immigration protection and instead of paying down debt it continues the deficit funding at the Department of Corrections-just like they operate in Washington.”
Senator Bryant said of the Senate Finance Committee budget that, “The Senate Finance Committee budget shows the door to teachers and convicts. All South Carolinians will agree nothing more is as important as keeping teachers in the classroom and keeping convicts in jail. I will not support any budget that deprives schoolchildren of their teacher and simultaneously puts criminals back in our neighborhoods.”
