My Fellow Republicans,
I hope this letter finds you all well and ready to get to work in the year 2010.
As we look back on a difficult 2009, we must also put the year into perspective as it relates to a troubled decade in our political landscape.
While we were promised “hope” and “change”, we’ve seen even higher deficit spending and an overburdensome healthcare bill being railroaded straight through the taxpayer’s pocketbook. President Obama and a liberal congress seem determined to use our government to their own end.
Even our own state has been taken aback by moral failings and political infighting within the past year and decade. Republicans have championed core values and responsibility in the past and there is no reason to abandon the call for our leaders to beacon the same high virtues. Also, the past decade has been mired in the loss of direction regarding governmental affairs locally. Often we see good ethical government take a backseat when bureaucracy becomes the guidepost of progress. It takes strong leadership to right the mistakes made in the past in the name of vision.
This new year, we as a party will continue to hold our leaders to the same lofty goals as in the past. We should restore ethics in government in order to maintain what is great about this land and continue to correct the improper path once taken.
With all this said, I ask you all to join with me in making the Anderson County Republican Party the strongest that it has ever been. We must take a stand for truth. We must take this stand as a unified Party. Make a commitment to help elect candidates that uphold the values of the Party. Make a commitment to being at meetings and helping with campaigns.
I look forward to working with you in 2010,
Liz Holmes
