Core Principles
Bryant is an advocate of the Republican platform and encourages all candidates to respect the core values it represents since those values are crucial to our society and crucial to political victory. As a conservative, Bryant’s values are well rooted in the belief that Big Government is detrimental to the citizens of South Carolina. He believes the grip of excessive regulation on S.C. businesses is leaving free enterprise in jeopardy and believes this current trend must be corrected to preserve prosperity.
Reflective of their convictions that our nation must begin to regard human life, respect the family unit, and acknowledge the moral basis from which we were founded, the Bryants are members of the NRA, National Right to Life, Christian Coalition, and Concerned Women of America, S.C. Waterfowl Association, Palmetto Family Council & S.C. Policy Council.
Taxation
Government Growth
As a fiscal conservative, Kevin supports reducing the tax burden of individuals, families, seniors and small businesses, because government bureaucrats cannot control their thirst for gratuitous spending. Despite their claims, bureaucrats do not know how to spend money better than those who earn it.
A recent study by the Congressional Joint Economic Committee indicates the government collects $1.40 for every one dollar of service provided. In other words, nearly 28 percent of taxpayer money is wasted before it is put to work. For this reason, Bryant is working to ensure less money is taken from hard-working taxpayers’ income.
Property Tax Reform
Property tax reform has always been a key element in Bryant’s political philosophy, yet he has met strong resistance in the legislature. Recently, thanks to grassroots involvement from citizens, the public outcry has finally been heard in Columbia! There are many bills under consideration for property tax relief of which Bryant is sponsor. The best proposals call for the total elimination of property taxes while funding local government with the sales tax.
Bryant believes that sales tax is the fairest of all taxes. The more one spends, the more one pays the sales tax. He is committed to this principle, however, that an increase in the sales tax must be matched by an elimination of another tax.
Education
Kevin Bryant firmly believes that parents are the primary educators of their children, and government should help, not hinder, parents from fulfilling their role. Unfortunately, most parents do not have the ability to make the most important decision regarding their child’s education—the decision of where their child attends school.
Parents are aware of the educational needs of their children more than anyone else, and Bryant is committed to working in the S.C. Senate to give parents more education options, including the ability to decide whether their child attends a public, public charter, private or home school. Giving parents a full range of school options will not only help their children, it will also create greater competition in the education marketplace, thus improving all the schools in the area.
Bryant is also committed to release teachers from overly burdensome regulations in our education system. Teachers also deserve the freedom to teach in a disciplined classroom. Good Tort Reform will allow teachers & principals to enforce discipline in our schools. Reducing regulation and administration costs will free up funds and get them where they are needed—the classroom.
Economy
Business Regulation Reform
He believes the grip of excessive regulation on S.C. businesses is leaving free enterprise in jeopardy and believes this current trend must be corrected to preserve prosperity.
Bryant would like for Government to take a new approach to how we regulate business. Instead of the cumbersome micromanagement of our businesses with paper work, he would rather focus on the investigation and prosecution of fraud, abuse, and corruption.
Tort Reform
The S.C. Legislature needs to pass legal reforms to cut down on the frivolous lawsuits that provide a drag to our economic well-being. Reasonable tort reform will dramatically affect almost every aspect of life in S.C. The most obvious lawsuit abuses are directed at our Healthcare, Retail, and Construction industries, but Bryant is convinced that tort reform will even impact our education system, and will encourage economic development growth.
Lake Hartwell
Proper water level in Lake Hartwell, the third most visited lake in the United States, is vital to Anderson’s economy. Our most recent drought triggered $123 million in lost revenue (this figure does not include loses from real estate sales and rentals). Currently an inter-basin water transfer exists upstream from Lake Hartwell authorizing Greenville County to withdraw up to 150 million gallons of water per day if the need arises. Unfortunately, this transfer is not based on the needs of our lake but of the recipient. This policy must be revised, permitting water transfers only if our lake level is not jeopardized.
Water management in our area should be based on sound science. Bryant recognizes the essential need for a comprehensive water study and sound water policy. As water needs grow, especially in dense metropolitan areas like Atlanta, a responsible compact is crucial with the State of Georgia, protecting the best interests of Lake Hartwell.
Agriculture
Agriculture, being S.C.’s 2nd largest industry, needs our support. Bryant’s strong support for tax reform and regulation reform will be an advantage to the family farmer, as any small business.
We need to explore assisting the industry similar to Florida’s promotion of the Florida Orange. Bryant also recognizes that the resulting soil conditions from tobacco farming have been found to be ideal for cotton. Bryant would like to research the possibility of helping tobacco farmers transition to cotton, since the use of tobacco is on the decline.
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Small Farms Program was the first of its kind in the country. The program provides assistance to small family farmers with an emphasis on dissemination of information, referrals, and counseling. Special importance is placed on farmer owned marketing cooperatives, land retention, alternative land use, and community development. Major focus is also centered on identifying and securing financial resources, locating profitable markets, and assisting farmers with efficient farm operations.
Healthcare
The United States is the recognized world leader in health care. Our development of new technologies is helping people live healthier and longer lives. Unfortunately, the rapidly rising cost of health care is making it more difficult for families to afford the care they need. In addition, the Medicaid program has become an outdated failing to adequately serve South Carolina’s low-income families.
Bryant is supportive of healthcare reforms that will reduce costs and increase access to health care through the creation of a more consumer-driven healthcare system.
As a Registered Pharmacist, Bryant witnesses waste in healthcare—particularly Medicaid—every single day.
Values
Welfare Reform
Kevin Bryant has compassion for those unable to do for themselves, but He is frustrated by tax dollars doled out to those unwilling to do for themselves. Our welfare systems need to give a “hand up” instead of a “hand out.” The system needs to empower individuals by training, finding work, and ending the vicious cycle of poverty. Bryant also recognizes the trend of our welfare system to reward laziness & irresponsibility, while punishing hard work and personal character.
Immigration
We are a nation of immigrants. Or our ancestors came to America to work, live, and prosper in peace. However, the current influx of immigrants seeking free healthcare and government benefits causes concern. While we should remain a melting pot, we must empower immigrants to become self-sufficient. To do this, welfare reform must accompany law enforcement empowerment to reduce our illegal immigration problems. Our ancestors came to this country and worked to make a living without welfare to depend on, and today’s immigrants should be able to do the same.
2nd Amendment
Kevin Bryant has vowed to defend the Constitution and the right to own firearms, as enumerated in the Second Amendment. Kevin personally has a concealed weapon permit and encourages all citizens, especially women and seniors, to acquire a CWP and other necessary-self defense training. Bryant is a defender of the Constitution and will not compromise on your freedoms.
Property Rights
Whether you’ve got a 3 story mansion, or a 30 year-old doublewide, it is your home. You work hard, pay your taxes and your bills. Your home is the very best that you can provide for your family. Your home is your castle. Bryant is in the process of strengthening our state’s eminent domain laws. In the wake of the shocking ruling concerning New London Connecticut’s public taking, he is committed to addressing Property Rights Legislation. He will not rest until the New London scenario becomes absolutely impossible in South Carolina!
Family
Kevin Bryant believes the family is one of the most basic and critical institutions in America. In the family, children learn basic relational skills and morals from their mom, dad and siblings. Parents provide the care children need during years of nurturing, as well as countless hours of teaching them the skills to succeed in life. The family unit is where individuals learn to grow into mature adults and repeat the process with children of their own.
Empowering parents, while keeping the government from intervening as much as possible, is the best way the government can help parents build strong families to continue the strength of society. Despite the claims of many bureaucrats, parents are the best advocates for their children and know best how to raise them.
Marriage
Bryant is wholeheartedly committed to the sanctity of marriage as prescribed by our Creator. Bryant will support legislation and or a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The basic institution of humanity is under attack by the extreme left and Bryant will stand firm.
Life
Protecting the sanctity of human life is one of Kevin Bryant’s top priorities. As a father of three, he understands that a fetus is more than an object; it is a live child with its own personality and character inside the womb.
In the United States, 40 million abortions have occurred over the last three decades, ending these young, innocent lives. As your S.C. Senator, Bryant is an outspoken defender for the unborn and will support measures that limit the abortion-on-demand policies created in 1973 by the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade.
Faith
Many concerned citizens desire to be informed of political candidates’ faith. Bryant is a born-again Christian, having trusted Jesus Christ as personal savior not by works, but through faith. He came to this saving knowledge at 8 years old. Christian principles are an important part of Kevin’s enthusiasm to display a servant leadership approach to public office, as well has his business, family, and community obligations.
