S. 1446: immigration enforcement Arizona based

It’s way to late in the session to pass this bill, however, we’re going to try to get some discussions going to earn traction on this bill for early January. So far, we’ve got 19 sponsors

“LET ME SEE YOUR PAPERS” - where have we heard lines like that before?

  2. Palmetto Conservative says:

How about the federal government currently run by Barack Obama:

Section 264 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) states, “Every alien in the United States . . . shall be issued a certificate of alien registration or an alien registration receipt card in such form and manner and at such time as shall be prescribed under regulations . . .” It also says, “Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to him . . .. Any alien who fails to comply with [these provisions] shall be guilty of a misdemeanor…”

  3. Gray says:

Ugh… yeah, you can’t see the difference there can you?

  4. Palmetto Conservative says:

I cannot. Please tell me what is the difference.

  5. Palmetto Conservative says:

Are you unable to tell the difference?

  6. Gray says:

    Did I say crackpot yet?

  7. Palmetto Conservative says:

So, you cannot tell the difference.

    0-3

    Have a nice day

  8. Jim says:

Let me ask you this. What makes an “alien” stand out from say, you or me or any other person that you randomly walk past on the street? How will said police tell the difference?

It amazes me that you don’t trust the government with your data but you’ll trust them to enforce a law like this properly. I don’t think you can have it both ways man…

  9. Palmetto Conservative says:

The Arizona law actually reads: “FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON.”

“Lawful contact” means that an officer is already engaged with an individual because of a violation. If a cop finds crack in someone’s pocket and then wants to see proof of citizenship, that’s fine by me, man.

  10. Palmetto Conservative says:

Jim? Hello? Are you out there?

  11. Jim says:

@PalCon - seriously you should lay of the coffee man, not everyone is hanging out on these right winger blogs like you are I don’t think…

So crack users are illegal aliens? You can’t just link the two like that and have it make sense in any meaningful way. “Lawful contact” could be the same as being pulled over for going 45 in a 35 zone. And you’re still going to be making the “assumption” to check their papers based on a physical view of their face. It’s still a largely race based system to me.

  12. Palmetto Conservative says:

An officer always checks the papers of a speeder–it’s called their driver’s license. The fact that you’re happy with the status quo tells me all that I need to know.

  13. Jim says:

There’s a big difference checking a driver’s license and checking your citizenship status my friend. Also, I think you missed my point by focusing on the tree’s of my argument instead of the forrest there, it’s not just a speeder but it could be anyone and I ask you again, how do you tell an illegal apart from a normal citizen? Please answer me and don’t avoid the question.

  14. Palmetto Conservative says:

Illegal aliens don’t have legal driver’s licenses, my friend. An officer exposes an illegal alien by obtaining (once engaged in a lawful contact) their identification–or lack thereof, my friend. Any more quetions, my friend?

  15. Jim says:

That’s a pretty big assumption there, some illegal aliens even have SSN’s and pay taxes on their wages but don’t have the green card or residency that you so much want to see.

Not everyone has a driver’s license either, like my grandmother, she’s never had one but she’s a citizen of this country same as me or you. I’m not sure you can actually argue this any more without just throwing away any care of being racist, due to the racial profiling it most surely is.

You must be tanked up on coffee again…

  16. Palmetto Conservative says:

I repeat: “Illegal aliens don’t have legal driver’s licenses, my friend.” You find the evidence to refute that, and then we’ll move on. Otherwise, we’ll remain with the understanding that you approve of the status quo.

Perhaps they’re sneaking something across the border that fills your tank. I’m just sayin’…

  17. Jim says:

Uh, did you read my comment? Seriously you are a jerk. You complain about no one answering you here but then you’re rude and nonsensical in your responses.

  18. Palmetto Conservative says:

Did you read mine? “Illegal aliens don’t have legal driver’s licenses, my friend.” I’m waiting for your evidence of the error in that statement. The fabrication of Social Security cards by illegal aliens actually proves my point. So, thanks for your comment. Anything else?

  19. sullyman says:

    Hey Jim,

Palmetto Conservative is Kevin Bryant’s own Will Folks. He’s a conservative hack that runs this site and gets off on being in charge and not only sparring, but keeping score as well. That way he always wins.

I think it is therapeutic for him.

  20. Jim says:

I get it PalCon, illegal aliens don’t have legal driver’s licenses. See but I’m a grown up and i’m not arguing your exact point, i’m able to mentally make the difference in the argument and see that you clearly haven’t thought this out much more past the point of not giving a crap about any other human’s rights.

My point isn’t in the inane accuracy of your exact statement but the broader implication that in order to do what your saying with this law it’s going to be racial profiling at it’s worst… I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree that that’s what it’ll be then.

@sullyman - yeah, I should know better. This guy is a child. I think i’m done with this POS blog…

  21. Palmetto Conservative says:

Having failed to answer the question, he bravely ran away.

    P. S. - Hey, sullyman. How’s Philly?
