got taxcuts?

First day of session and I’m proud to announce that I’ve secured a seat on the South Carolina Senate Finance Committee.  I appreciate this opportunity as it is unusual for a member to join the Finance Committee during their first term.  In the Senate, each member is entitled to either a seat on the Judiciary Committee or Finance Committee.  I will miss the Judiciary Committee, especially because of my appreciation for the chairman, Glenn McConnell.  However, I understand financial issues better and have a passion for eliminating wasteful spending and serving as a proponent for tax cuts and reducing the exasperating growth of government we are currently seeing. Committee Assignments:
Finance Committee
Labor, Commerce, & Industry Committee
Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee
Medical Affairs Committee
General Committee

The short answer: “NO!!!!” Maybe now the message will seep into the spendorama that the answer to every question in not “give them some more money” and that the corollary is not, “get it from the taxpayers.” Perhaps the conservatives on that committee will now have to meet somewhere besides a phone booth. Keep up the good fight and remember what Reagan said: “We don’t have a debt because we tax too little. We have a debt because we spend too much.”

I’m glad to hear you are now on the Medical Affairs Committee. Now maybe you’ll do something for your Anderson County constituents. Remember my discussion with you, Senate Bill 53 which states “notwithstanding any other provision of law, a hospital licensed in this State (SC) may not charge uninsured patients fees for services rendered that are in excess of the maximum fees charged for the same services rendered to insured patients.” You know, the bill that has been sitting in the Medical Affairs Committee since JANUARY, 2006 and is still sitting there? I’m sure that those of us who are willing to pay a fair price for health care would appreciate it. So would the 600 or so other people out there that have gotten sued by AnMed….unfortunately it may be too late for them, we’ll wait to see the outcome of the class-action.
