Thursday 06.21.07 we passed monumental department of transportation reform and workers compensation reforms. The appropriations bill also passed without my vote. Below are 7 of the numerous reasons:
1- Unprecedented level of spending. The budget this year spent over $1.4 billion in new money.
2- Fails to properly fund the OPEB (Other Post Employee Benefits) trust fund. This fund is $9 billion out of balance, we put a pidly $50 million toward this liability.
3-Fails to fund statewide construction or repair.
4- Fails to reform the legislative slush fund known as the competitive grants program,
5- Fails to give meaningful tax relief. The elimination of the lower bracket does nothing for the overwhelming number of taxpayers who bear nearly the entire burden, the working men and women of South Carolina.
6- Includes a one-year elimination of the remaining “blue laws”. It was not subjected to the necessary legislative scrutiny and debate for a matter of this magnitude.
7- Contains more than $300 million in local projects.
There were some good things in this budget like 100 more troops & a 3% pay raise for teachers. My no vote doesn’t mean I’m against these, it says let’s go back and write it right.

Kevin
Those are 7 reasons I can agree with. Good job!
7 Reasons To Vote Against Kevin Bryant
1) He’s an obtuse, backwards pawn of Mark Sanford and the Do-Nothing Libertarian Faction Of The GOP.

Those 7 reasons will re-elect Kevin Brynt in Anderson County. The Gov. is very popular up there. Does that mean that his constituents are obtuse, backwards pawns of Mark Sanford and the Do-Nothing Libertarian Faction Of The GOP?
Anonymous listed seven reasons to vote against Kevin Bryant. Those are typical of liberal arguments. They are well-constructed after an obvious lengthy, exhaustive, and objective assessment. They are hard-hitting and the charges they bring are difficult to refute. Man, I admire the cognitive process of that individual!!!
From Hurricane Katrina to SC’s terrible roads, government at many levels is not performing as well as it should.
Judging by their budgets, SC General Assembly and the US Congress inexplicably think this means government ought to get involved in even more parts of the economy.
The trick to restoring people’s trust in government is for government to do FEWER things BETTER.
Senator Bryant appears to understand this. I wish more people did.
Bryant is a tool of the very far right, the Libertarians who would eliminate all government.
I’m pretty far right of center, but I can tell you that the things Kevin Bryant focuses on, and the people he associates himself with (see Ron “Confedarate Flag” Wilson), makes me cringe. He’s my rep, and he doesn’t represent me at all.
We have to take our party back from these extremists folks. They will never change, and they will always be ignored and marginalized by smart people with real ideas (see Marshall Sanford, the most ineffective governor in the history of the fifty states).
My libertarian acquaintences resent the liberal application of the far right remark…
Compared to most leftists, fiscally and on some issues they are exaggeratedly far to the right of extreme left “moderate” positions.
Of course when the bubba liberals think that ad hominem means dump another cup of grits in the pot, I can understand anon’s befuddlement.
PS as to ” (see Marshall Sanford, the most ineffective governor in the history of the fifty states).”
I’ve observed that you can post anything on wikipedia, even that Jim Hodges prefers Hanes Her Way to boxers…
I don’t believe I have heard Sen. Bryant say he wanted to completely do away with government. He wants a responsible government.
Ron Wilson isn’t the extreme he even claimed to be. Why would you be afraid of him?
